Who we Are
a little bit about us!
Kelly graduated from Utah Valley University with a bachelor of science degree in 1997 in elementary education. It was UVU’s first year teaching program. Kelly taught that summer in Washington DC at the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center in the heart of the nation’s capital. In the fall she moved to a brand new charter school opening called Friendship Blow Pierce Elementary & Middle School. As she was trying to teach children to understand Spanish, she soon realized that a number of them struggled to read and write in English. She moved back to Utah after the school year to continue her education in special education. Kelly obtained a teaching position in special education and entered the APPEL program through Utah State University. Once again she was still seeing children struggling to read and wanted to know how to specifically target their needs. Upon completion of the APPEL program, Kelly continued her education and spent the summer in West Texas learning about Alphabetic Phonics through a scholarship opportunity she was granted.
Kelly graduated in 2003, from The Scottish Rite Learning Center of West Texas with over 175 teaching hours in dyslexia therapy. She returned in 2007, and became certified in The Take Flight Curriculum. Kelly completed a masters program in 2010, and after 20 years of teaching reading therapy and well over 1400 hours of teaching The Take Flight Curriculum, she went on to complete her Academic Language Therapist Qualified Instructor Program in 2024. She’s excited for the opportunity to train others in the intensive program she received that has a sequential instruction, supervises teachers, requires evaluations, and an understanding in competencies to teaching children to read.
Not only has Kelly become an expert in the field of dyslexia, but she has a child with dyslexia and can relate to parents and the struggles they face, along with their experiences. She has worked tirelessly over the years supporting her son by doing all she knew at the time, which included: sending him to private schools, providing reading therapy, helping him get an individualized educational program (IEP), applying and getting the Carson Smith grant for the private schools, working with his school counselor and administration to move him to a Section 504 plan and holding his high school accountable to implementing his accommodations. Kelly continues to be an advocate for him and other students in similar situations. She provides parents resources as needed and understands their circumstances.

Orton-Gillingham was the first teaching approach that was designed to specifically help struggling readers learn the connections between letters and sounds. It’s multisensory approach has proven to be highly effective for students with dyslexia.
Inspiring Minds offers reading services to children as well as screenings.
Dyslexia is a learning disability in reading, but we prefer to call it a learning DIFFERENCE! People with dyslexia have trouble reading at a good pace and without mistakes. They also have a hard time with reading comprehension, spelling, and writing. But these challenges aren’t a problem with intelligence!
